CALICO ROCK — Dwight L. Long, 80, of Calico Rock died Thursday, June 14, 2012, in Calico Rock.

Born March 26, 1932, in Mitchell, S.D., he was the son of Burl Nathan Long and Ethel Irene Thrasher Long.

After high school, he enrolled in Russellville Technical College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he began working in the construction field. He became a commercial and residential contractor, constructing numerous Kentucky Fried Chicken and Mexico Chiquito restaurants. He built multiple houses and businesses in the Calico Rock area.

On Dec. 27, 1953, he married Verda Marie Hall in Eloy, Ariz. He was of the United Methodist faith and was an active member of Calico Rock United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years; a son, Larry Long of Calico Rock; two daughters, Pamela Holmes of Sherwood and Kathie Houston of Conway; nine grandchildren, Bethany Holmes, Lisa Scott, James Long, Talon Houston, Laura Long, Tia Houston, Alexandra Long, Aaron Griffing and Austin Griffing; and two great-grandchildren, Bryler Long and Aiden Long.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dwight Nathan Long; a brother, Gerald Long; and a sister, Burthel Hogenes.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calico Rock United Methodist Church with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be in Pineville Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Coleman, Earl Erby, David McNeill, Del Moad, Kenny Thornton and Allen Trillingham.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Lindsey and Alton "Hoot" Rush.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the church.

Memorials may be made to Calico Rock United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 369, Calico Rock, AR 72519.
