Services Held For Alonzo Lee Gray

Alonzo Lee Gray son of the late George Washington and Lucy Gray, was born April 9, 1878 and departed this life October 20, 1965 at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 11 days.

His first marriage was to Lula Yancey, who preceded him in death by many years.

Later he was married to Mandy Ellen Neal Davis on December 19, 1903 and to this union two children were born, one son Oren Gray who preceded his father in death and one daughter, Vella Sherrill of Forty Four, Ark.

Mr. Gray was also preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters, one twin brother and one granddaughter, Darleace Sherrill.

Survivors include; his daughter Vella Sherrill of Forty Four, Ark., one step-son, Ules Davis of Bakersfield, Calif., eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and friends who mourn his passing.

Mr. Gray was a Landmark Missionary Baptist and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

He was a resident of Calico Rock for many, many years.

Funeral services were held Oct 23, 1965 at 2:00 o’clock in the community building at Brockwell, Ark with the Rev. H. L. Porterfield and Lenard Yancey officiating.

Burial was in the Page Cemetery under the direction of the McCallum Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Erskel Neal, Jimmy Owens, Revel Simmons, Ethelle Montgomery, Tom Brockwell and Troy Hellums.

Pianist was Mrs. Earl McVey and song leader Mrs. Lloyd Yancey.
