LUNSFORD, T.B. - {from The Springdale News Extra Friday, 25th} This community was surprised and shocked yesterday afternoon when it was announced that Rev. T.B. Lunsford, residing about one mile south of town, had dropped dead. The news could scarcely be believed, but investigation developed the fact that it was only too true. A.B. McAlexander was driving by the residence of Mr. Lunsford about five o'clock yesterday afternoon when some of those in the wagon called his attention to the fact that Mr. Lunsford was lying in the yard and possible might be ill. Mr. McAlexander got out and approached Mr. Lunsford and saw at once that this splendid Christian gentleman, who only a short time ago was animated with life, was now cold in death. The news spread quickly and neighbors and friends soon gathered to render any assistance possible. In the front yard is a small plot of ground enclosed with boards some six inches high in which Mr. Lunsford had planted flower seed. He was at this work when death came to him, as was shown by the position of the body. Everything indicated that he had been seated on the edge of this bed, as his feet were on the ground and the body reposing on the bed on the right side. By his side was a sheet of note paper on which he had written a few words pertaining to the location of different varieties of flowers in the bed, and in his right hand was a lead pencil. He had on a pair of steel rimmed glasses and when he fell they were broken. Everything indicates that he expired suddenly and without a struggle. Living at home with Mr. Lunsford were his son, Joe, and daughter, Miss Lucy, these three comprising the little family circle. Neither son nor daughter were at home at the time. The former was about a mile away plowing and the latter was visiting at Mr. Randall's, a nearby neighbor. When discovered by Mr. McAlexander he could not have been dead much over half an hour as a young lad named Smith had been there only a short time before after potato plants and Mr. Lunsford was then enjoying his customary health. The body was carried into the house and Coroner Bishop of Fayetteville notified. On account of the lateness of the hour we were unable to secure the verdict of the coroner's jury, but it is evident that death was caused by paralysis of the heart or some disease of a similar nature. Mr. Lunsford has been in very good health of late but last winter his heart was affected and he has stated that he believed that when death did come to him it would come suddenly. Rev. Lunsford's two sons, Tom, living in the Territory, and Will, located at Marshfield, Mo., were notified by wire of their father's death and are expected to arrive this morning. Rev. T.B. Lunsford had been a resident of this place for a number of years, being something near 65 years of age. He was a minister of the Presbyterian church and took an active part in church work. He was a splendid citizen in every respect, honored and esteemed by all and his sudden death has cast a shadow over the community. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community goes out to the grief stricken children now deprived of both father and mother. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. J.C. Wylie, Dr. S.W. Davis and Rev. D.C. Boggs.
