PARKS, James - James Parks died Tuesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Rhoads, with whom he has made his home for several years. Mr. Parks had been afflicted with heart trouble for some time and suffered several severe attacks during the winter. About ten days ago his condition became serious and since then he had been slowly sinking. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church yesterday afternoon at half-past two and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.R. Nelson. Interment was in the Rogers cemetery beside the grave of his wife, who died about five years ago. Mr. Parks was past seventy-three years of age, having been born January 21, 1836 at Springville, Indiana. He was married November 15, 1860 to Miss Cynthia M. Lemon and to them were born five children, two sons and three daughters, They are Mrs. Mattie Rhoads and Geo. D. Parks of this city; Mrs. Jessie Schaeffer of Scott, Ohio; Mrs. Louis Bates of Chicago and Eugene Parks whose address is not known. The deceased spent most of his life in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa and then moved to Hot Springs, this state, in the 90's. With his wife and two daughters he came to Rogers in 1897 to be with his son, Geo. D. Parks, who had then been here several years in business. He had not been strong in recent years and his church and his grandchildren were his chief source of interest. The writer met him nearly every day on the way to and from the office and he never failed with his cheery call of greeting. He will be missed as one who was beloved by the entire neighborhood and especially by the children. Rev. Nelson, as his pastor, says of the deceased: "Bro. Parks was a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was converted and joined the church when quite young and has been a proficient official member, holding many of the various offices of the church."
