E. M. Davenport, aged 73, resident of Pine Bluff for the past 16 years, died at his home near Whitehall at 10:30 a.m. after a brief illness.
He was born March 1, 1872 in Pulaski County, Arkansas, son of the late John and Francis Davenport, pioneer residents of Alabama. He was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church and was very active in church work of all kinds. In addition to his wife, the former Miss Alice Jones, whom he married in North Little Rock September 23, 1913. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Marlow of Beaumont, Texas; Mrs. Beulah Huntress of El Reno, Oklahoma; Mrs. Lola Ray and Miss Lucille Davenport of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Two sons, S-Sgt. Alvin Davenport, somewhere in the South Pacific; and Louie Davenport of Mantaca, California; one sister, Mrs. A. B. Kyser of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Captain Henry Davis, somewhere in the South Pacific; twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
