**obituary The Goshen News, Goshen, Indiana, March 31, 2007:

CALICO ROCK, Ark. — Esther Mae Shank, 80, died of cancer Friday at 1 a.m. at Community Medical Center of Izard County.

She was born March 23, 1927, in Orrville, Ohio, to Charles and Crissie (Yoder) Shank.

She was a 1945 graduate of Goshen High School and a 1949 graduate of Goshen College. She started in a service unit at Richmond Mental Hospital and received her R.D. degree after study and training at Western Reserve University and Cleveland Medical Center.

She served as instructor and dietitian at Messiah College, Grantham, Pa., in hospitals at Elkhart and Goshen, Ind., La Junta, Colo., Santa Fe, N.M., and at Showalter Villa Retirement Center in Hesston, Kan. Since 1983 she served at the Community Medical Center in Calico Rock.

She was a member of Calico Rock Mennonite Fellowship and was active in civic affairs. She was an avid gardener and member of the local garden club and of the committee of the town library.

She is survived by three sisters, Mary (Ernest) Lehman and Lois (Glenn) Musselman, both of Goshen, Ind., and Mary Kay (Howard) Felton Snider, Parrish, Fla.; and a brother, David A. (Wilma) Shank, Goshen, Ind.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Paul and Ernest; and a sister, Ruth.

A memorial service will take place May 6 at Calico Rock Mennonite Fellowship Church, Calico Rock.

At her request, her ashes will be scattered among the wild flowers at Calico Rock.
