Lionel Creighton, 87, died at this home in Batesville on Thursday, December 3, 2009.

He was born Tuesday, May 9, 1922 in Electra, Texas and was the son of Claude Levi and Ina (Grey) Creighton.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Air Force for 39 months, 31 months of which was served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operation under General Douglas McArthur. For more than 50 years, he owned and operated Nu-Way, Inc. in Batesville.

He was an ordained deacon and, until failing health prohibited, a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Batesville.

He is survived by his widow, Cassie Creighton, of the home; one son, Donald Lynn Creighton of Batesville; three daughters: Connie Gifford of Mountain Home, Cathy Beard of Austin, Texas, and Tracy McAllister of Greenbrier and a special daughter-in-law, Linda Creighton of Batesville. He is also survived by a sister, Joy Beard of Abilene, Texas, eight grandchildren: Kevin Creighton and Eric Creighton of Batesville; John Riherd of Hobart, Indiana; Tammy Riherd-Horton of Macon, Georgia; Caitlin Eldridge and Meghan Eldridge of Austin, Texas; Carli McAllister and McKenzie McAllister of Greenbrier, Arkansas; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C. L. and Ina (Grey) Creighton; two sisters: Mirth Creighton and Katherine Stickney; and one brother, James Grey Creighton.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Kevin Creighton, Eric Creighton; John Riherd, Tammy Riherd-Horton, Caitlin Eldridge and Meghan Eldridge, Carli McAllister and McKenzie McAllister.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Greg Neaville and the nurses at White River Diagnostic Clinic, Hospice and Home Health Caregivers, Dr. Jim Lytle and Alice Lytle, Jim Hughes, Jerry Teague, all employees, both current and past, of Nu-Way, Inc., the Co-ed Sunday School Class and the Senior Men’s Class of First Baptist Church of Batesville.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The service is Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Batesville with the Reverends Jim Black and Alan Meinzer officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Owens Family Cemetery in Brockwell, Arkansas.

Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Boys and Girls Ranch Memorial Fund, PO Box 3964, Batesville, AR 72503 and the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home, PO Box 552, Little Rock, AR 72203.
