Joel D. Ponder, aged 83, died at his home in Lester, Ark., on Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife, and three sons, Wilton, Clifton, and Bradley Ponder, all of Camden. Four daughters, Mrs. Irene Sturgis of Camden, Mrs. Mable Hussey of Little Rock, Mrs. Rosa McKay of Thornburg, and Mrs. Carie Crain of Fordyce; one brother, Newitt Ponder, of Urbana, Ark; one sister, Lillie Lee of Minden, La.; 40 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Bell Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. today with Rev. A. W. Tanner officiating. Mathis Funeral Home will be in charge. (Camden News - February 17, 1947)
