*HARDIN CEMETERY OVERVIEW

Hardin Cemetery
Grant County,
Arkansas

GPS: 34.31787, -92.34821

The Hardin Cemetery appears to be abandoned.

Directions: From Sheridan, head east on Hwy 270 for 3.2 miles. Turn right on Grant County Rd 748. The cemetery is less that .1 of mile and is on the left in a grove of tree

*A special Thank You to Rev. Stephen J. Porter for the following information:

1--The abandoned house at the corner at the turnoff from the highway with a 'H H' on it was the residence of Henry & Hattie Hardin Hill.
2--There was a blank gravestone near to Edward Porter's.  This likely was the grave of either young Turner Porter (another son of J. T. Porter) or a granddaughter of J. T. Porter named either Frances or Nancy Porter who drowned ~1895.
3--Ridley B. & Edith Porter, along with his brother, Joel Porter, moved from Hurricane Creek near the Benton area to this area east of what would be Sheridan in 1859.  Ridley died that year and is likely buried in this cemetery, as probably are Joel & Edith who died before 1880.  Of course, not certain where their graves would be.
4--The cemetery was likely first known as the Porter Family Graveyard.  It wasn't until Fannie married Andrew Hardin and their burials before the Hardin name became prominent.
