Funeral services for Kenneth Lester Trammell of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 24, 2010 at First Baptist Chruch, with Dr. David Johnson and Reverend Max Pyron officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, April 23, 2010 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel with family receiving friends from 6-8PM. Ken died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Baxter Regional Medical Center, at the age of 90. He was born September 22, 1919 in Gassville, AR, the son of William Marvin and Mattie Elizabeth Morris Trammell. He graduated from Toledo, Ohio Public Schools and Tri-State University. He returned to Mountain Home in 1939. He was inducted into the U.S. Army December 6, 1941 and served in the Pacific Islands. His last assignment was at General Headquarters, U.S. Army Forces Pacific Adjutant General's Office - Radio and Cables Center, serving in General Douglas MacArthur's Headquarters. He was on duty the night the message from Japanese authorities came say
ing they wanted to surrender and he relayed the message to the General. He married Nannie Lee ?Doedy? Paul on September 11, 1942 at San Luis Obispo, California. He was discharged December 12, 1945. He opened a Ladies Ready to Wear Store in Mountain home known as "Trammell's" which he operated for 42 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce. He was Rotary Club President, Chairman of the City Parking Authority from 1971-1979, Past President of Downtown Merchant's Association and Chairman of the City Park Commission when the first city swimming Pool was built in Hickory Park. He loved traveling, golf, fishing and woodworking. Ken is survived by his wife, Nannie Lee, 2 daughters, Dawn Marie (Paul) Magness, Jr. of Mountain Home, AR and Nan Ellen Trammell of Sheridan, AR; 1 son, David Paul (Deb) Trammell of Mountain Home, AR, 4 grandchildren, Allison, Darren, Curt and Bo, 5 great-grandchildern, Hannah, McKenzie, Riley, C.J. and Kierstin
, long time friend, Becky Mayfield of Sheridan, AR, nieces, Mary Agnew and Diane Rushing and their families of Colorado and several Morris family cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Burial will be in the Mountain Home Cemetery with Darren Magness, Curt Trammell, Bo Trammell, Hiram Byrd, Jr., Stanley Jones, Jr. and Bob Wedgeworth as pallbearers. Bud Cooper, Robert Nelson, Larry Nelson, Robert Anderson, George Weber and Bernie Bakken as honorary pallbearers. Those wishing to honor Ken?s memory may make donations to the First Baptist Church or a Charity of Choice. Arrangements are by Kirby & Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
