WASHINGTON, Iowa - Hewert "Bud" Gray, 87, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the Washington Care Center.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Burial will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens in Mountain Homes, Arkansas.

Hewert was born on February 16, 1921, in Pleasant Hill, Illinois, the son of Guy W. and Fay Dexter Gray. He married Verna Wright on May 20, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas. She preceded him in death.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He piloted a B-29 plane in the Pacific Theater, flying 35 missions during the war.
He served as Assistant Superintendant for the Davenport Public School System, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Twin Lakes Golf Association and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include three sons, Marvin Gray, of Granite Bay, California, Douglas Gray, of Hancock, Maine, and Gerald Gray, of Aloha, Oregon; one daughter, Andrea Bryant and husband Bruce, of Muscatine; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane Gray, of Lee?s Summit, Missouri; and one sister, Nadine Ransom, of Pittsfield, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife.
