John S. Willems, age 75, of Mountain Home, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004, at his residence. He was born February 28, 1928, in Paris, Arkansas, to John M. and Anna M. Guenther Willems. On April 25, 1953, he married the former Dolores H. Pupp in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He moved to Mountain Home on June 10, 1969, from Milwaukee.

Mr. Willems was a realtor, broker, architectural designer and builder, and former owner of the Fish and Fiddle Resort. A U. S. Army Korean War veteran, he was a faithful member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church where he served as a Lector from 1970-1980 and a Eucharistic Minister at church, and Minister to the Sick at Auburn Hills Nursing Home and private homes from 1975 to the present and did much carpentry work at St. Peter’s. He designed and built (along with a group of men 60-84 years of age) the Knights of Columbus Building. Mr. Willems served on St. Peter’s Parish Council for 3 years; was a third and fourth degree Knight of Columbus; a member of the Holy Name Society; was a Catholic Youth Organization moderator for 2 years; and the Moose Lodge.

He helped found the Tracy Area Volunteer Fire Department, served on its board of directors and was its first president. He enjoyed traveling and fishing.

He is survived by his wife: Dolores H. Willems: of the home; 3 sons: Stephen (Lynn) Willems: Shillington, Pennsylvania; Daniel (Lynn) Willems: Dallas, Texas; Paul (Jane) Willems: Waco, Texas; 2 daughters: Susan (Joseph) Butler: Jonesboro, Arkansas and Kathy (Daniel) Hodnett: Mountain Home; 1 brother: Aloys Willems; 1 sister: Anna Marie Kloke; 7 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be from noon-9:00P.M. Friday at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6-8:00P.M. A Vigil Service will be 7:00P.M. Friday in the Roller Chapel with Deacon Richard Linstad officiating. A Funeral Mass will be 11:00A.M. Saturday in St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Reverend James Fanrak as celebrant; entombment will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Subiaco Abbey; St. Peter’s Catholic Church Building Fund or a favorite charity.
