Obituary of Ellender G. 'Allie' Lackey

When the death angel entered the home of Rev. Y. Whitfield on January 9, 1930, it took awasy the spirit of Aunt Allie Lackey. Her death was no a surprise to the loved ones who had been lovingly attending her bedside for many weeks. Aunt Allie, as she was fondly called by her many nieces and nephews was the last member of the large family of Robert and Nancy Lackey. She was born July 13, 1837. Age 92 years, 5 months, and 27 days. Having been an invalid for five years, she suffered much but bore it patiently. She was converted in early life and joined the Methodist Church in which she lived a true Christian until death.
Her life was spent in unselfish devotion and service to humanity. Some of her nobel work was helping to rear seveal orphan children, one of whom is the writer. Although, January 10th was a very cold and disagreeable day, a large gathering of relatives and friends met to pay their last respect of love to her. Funeral was conducted by Bros. C.J. Wade and J.R. Jennings. She was laid to rest in the Galatia Cemetery beside her loved ones, her grave covered with beautiful flowers. Loved ones do not weep as one having no hope for we are assured that if we will be faithful unto the end as she was, we will see her in a world where there will be no speration. 'Weep not that her toils are over, weep not that her race is run. God grant we may rest calmly when our work, like hers is done.'
By Mrs. Y. Whitfield
