William Arden Cantwell, 27, of Norfork was fatally injured last Friday in an accident near Crescent, OK, about 30 miles north of Oklahoma City, according to Trooper Frank Ward of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Ward said the accident, a collision between two westbound trucks, occured about 12:20PM on State Highway 33.
Ward said Cantwell, driving a 1966 one-ton Ford flat-bed truck, attempted to make a left turn into a private drive and his vehicle was struck by a 1972 Peterbuilt truck and trailer loaded with well pipe and driven by Sherman Hoskins, 48, of Tulsa, OK. Cantwell's truck belonged to the Lawton Transit Mix, Inc. firm of Lawton, OK. He had been employed by the firm the day before the accident.
Cantwell died Friday at St. Anthony's Hospital at Oklahoma City. Hoskins is a patient at St. Mary's Hospital at Enid, OK, Ward said.
Cantwell is survived by two sons, Jerry Lee Cantwell and William Allen Cantwell, both of Midwest City, OK; his parents , Rayburn and Pauline Cantwell of Norfork; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lona Cantwell of Norfork; three uncles; two anuts; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Norfork Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Casey officiating. Interment was in the Galatia Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were Jim Prnell, Eudal Southard, Charlie Utchman, Elmer Reynolds, Tommy Reynolds and Jimmy Baker; honorary pallbearers were Dow Lewis, Stanley Lee, David Smith, Hubert Beard, Bill Bradbury and Gene Adams.
Cantwell was born Sep 24, 1947 at Norfork.
