Girl Takes Her Own Life

Miss Letha Adcock of Hiwasse
Shoots Self With Revolver Sunday Afternoon, While In Gravette

Miss Letha Adcock, well known
young school teacher of Hiwasse, committed suicide Sunday afternoon, by shooting herself through the heart with a Smith-Wesson, revolver. She had just returned to the home of her sister, Mrs. James Banks, in Gravette, after a short motor trip, when she left the car saying that she wanted to go into the house and get a drink of water. While inside she picked up the revolver belonging to Mr. Banks and stepping out into the east yard, pressed it to her body and fired. Death was instantaneous, the bullet having gone directly through her heart. No cause is given for her action she had just returned from summer school at Fayetteville, and was to have entered into school work at the Gravette school next day, and it is thought, that she might have been under such a h1gh nervous tension that she impulsively took her own life. She was well known around her Hiwasse home and at Gravette, where she attended high school and graduated a few years ago, and many friends, were shocked to hear of her death. She is survived by a sister, Miss Maude, a brother Reed, her sister, Mrs, James Banks of Gravette, and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted at the Banks home in Gravette Tuesday by Rev. Phillips of the Christian churches of Gravette and Grove. Interment was made in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery, after the ceremony. Hundreds of sorrowing friends attended the funeral.
