ALFREY, A.H. - Died, June 20th, 1908 at his residence near Bentonville, Ark., A.H. Alfrey, age 83 years and 21 days. Deceased was born in Green county, Mo. May 23d, 1825. He came to Benton county about fifty-four years ago. He was married first to Miss Martha Underwood, from which union there were born three children, Wm. Alfrey of McDonald county, Mo.; Mrs. Mary Stites of Siloam Springs, Ark. and a son who died in infancy. Some years after the death of Mrs. Alfrey he was again married to Miss Emily Black about fifty years ago. To them were born seven children, four sons and three daughters, all living, and are honored and respected members of society. All were present at the funeral except Harrison Alfrey of Utah and Mrs. J.H. Maxwell of Oregon. Deceased accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior when a young man and united with the M.E. Church. In the war between the states he was for the Union. For more than half a century he has been a citizen of Benton county and for fifty years he has lived near Bentonville. All respected him as a good citizen, neighbor and a Christian gentleman. In the home he was a devoted husband and an affectionate father. His life was a home life. He was seldom absent from home except when duty called him. For several years he had been sorely afflicted and was often brought near the end; yet he always expressed himself as being ready for the change. Many friends and neighbors attended the funeral service at the residence and the interment at Mt. Eden cemetery, thus manifesting their regard for the deceased and their condolence for the aged consort and the beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. May the dear loved ones lay the burden of their hearts on Him, who alone can "bear our burdens and carry our sorrows." P. Carnahan.
