PNEUMONIA FATAL TO WELL KNOWN FARMER

Allie Woods, prominent farmer of this section, died Sunday morning, April 28, 1930 in a Bentonville hospital of pneumonia. He was taken suddenly ill last Tuesday and brought to the hospital for an operation. The operation was a serious one. Pneumonia developed later.

Funeral services were held from the family home, three miles east of Bentonville, on Monday afternoon, the Rev. A.W. Henderson, conducting the services. Burial was made in the City Cemetery at Bentonville by the side of his wife, who died several years ago.

Allen Pierce Woods, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Woods was born on the old Woods homestead, July 25, 1879, where he grew to manhood. In 1901 he went to Colorado returning the next year. He bought the present farm on which he lived and began developing it.

Mr. Woods was married to Miss Edna Jefferson in 1903. To them were born two sons, Louis E., aged 20 and Joseph A., 15 years old. Since the death of his wife, his mother has lived with him.

About ten years ago, he built one of the finest farm homes in the country. He loved flowers and his place was always an attraction to flower lovers. Mr. Woods was a successful farmer and was probably the largest grower of sweet potatoes and plants in the county.

He is also survived by four brothers, Dr. W.H. Woods, Jasper, Mo., Alex and Bryce Woods of the Woods community, and by four sisters Mrs. Madge Gartside, of Rogers; Mrs. Grace Christie, Durango, Colo., Mrs. Nancy Burns, Big Springs, Texas and Miss Blanche Woods of Phoenix, Arizona and other relatives.

Allen Woods comes from a family of Benton County pioneers. His grandfather, Samuel P. Woods came to this county in about 1832 and homesteaded the farm now occupied by Bryce Woods. This farm has been in cultivation for 98 years and is said by old settlers to be the oldest well-cared for farm in county.
