A spell of gloom was cast over the citizens of Gentry last Friday just prior to the midday hour when word came from the sick chamber in the Roush home that the Messenger of Death had just visited that place and claimed for his own, Mrs. J.P. Roush, thus removing from this mortal sphere of bright sunshine and deep shadow one who held the respect and honor of all, old and young alike. Mrs. Roush answered the last summons at 11:40 a.m. Friday, August 8 following a several weeks' illness from a complication of ailments together with heart trouble from which she had suffered for years; being at the time of her death 54 years, one month and 16 days old. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. I.B. Ballmer, pastor, at the Congregational church Sunday morning at 11. o'clock with burial in the Gentry cemetery, a large concourse of sorrowing ones paying their last respects to a departed friend and loved one at services both at the church and the Silent City of the Departed. She is survived by her husband, J.P. Roush; one sister, Mrs. Henry E. Beck of Kansas City, Mo.; one half-sister, Mrs. Dency Lewis of Galena, Mo. and a foster son, Milo Reinhardt of Gentry. Mrs. Roush had been a resident of Gentry for about ten years, spending some three years here prior to her marriage to Mr. Roush in November 1903. She, with Mr. Roush, has always been recognized as a leader in all civic and charitable work in this section and devoted no little of her time and means to the assistance of others, always ready and willing to aid the worthy needy and lend a helping hand to those who met with misfortune along the rugged pathway of life, spreading sunshine where otherwise would have been darkness and gloom.
