FIELDS, Mrs. M. - In memory of Mrs. M. Fields, born May 14th, 1812, died of paralysis Jan. 26th, 1890, age seventy—seven years, seven months, twelve days. Mrs. Fields was born in East Tennessee and married Moses Fields in 1834. In company with her husband and children she moved to Indian Territory in 1838 and settled near Maysville, Arkansas. In those pioneer days the country was wild and romantic. There were few conveniences as the country was very thinly settled, consequently they had many hard trials and troubles to contend with. Some 17 years after they came west her husband {Moses Fields) died, being fifty—one years of age, leaving her a widow with ten children, seven of whom lived to see that dear mother pass to her long and peaceful rest. The seven living are Samuel and James, Mrs. Margaret Smith {a widow), Mrs. Martha Simons {a widow), Mrs. Laura Yeager, Mrs. Sarah Smith, and one single daughter, Miss Sophronia Fields. She was a faithful and loving wife, a tender and careful mother, and a devoted friend. She was a member of the South Methodist Church with which she had been connected for some 50 years. She was perfectly willing to go and talked freely to her dear children just before she went. She had lived near Maysville 52 years and was well known and dearly beloved by all. With her seven children she leaves 20 grand children and three great grand children to mourn her loss. They were all gathered around her grave save two grandchildren. With sympathy for the bereaved, I am Jennie J. Dumas.
