LAKIN, George B. - The death of "Uncle" George B. Lakin, which occurred at 1 o'clock the morning of the last day of 1918, was a shock to his many friends here. Mr. Lakin was on our streets last Friday in apparent good health; was taken sick Saturday with inflammation of the bowels, following an injury from lifting. He was born April 19, 1848 in Lawrence Co., Ky.; moved to Triplett, Mo. in 1869; he spent about 25 years at Gravette; serving many times as city marshall and township constable, occupying these offices at time of death. Everyone esteemed him as a friend. He had been a member of the Christian church for several years. He leaves one sister, Mrs. J.W. McAllister, with whom he made his home; and two half brothers, Wm. and J.D. His father was buried here 7 years ago Wednesday. The funeral was conducted by Rev. U. Daugherty Tuesday and burial at the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Sympathy is extended the relatives.
