Funeral Here Monday

The body of Andrew B. Whitfield who died in a hospital in Kansas City last Friday night, the 27th, at 11 o'clock, arrived here last Sunday and was taken to the home of Y. Whitfield at Pineville, where it remained in state until Monday afternoon, when burial took place in the Calico Rock cemetery at 1 p.m. Brief services were held at Pineville Monday morning, and further services were held at the grave by Rev. L. E. Conkin of this place, assisted by Rev. D. R. Roberston of Mount Olive and Rev. Nichols of Pineville.

The remains were accompanied here by the family, who were met at the train by a host of friends and acquaintances.

Mr. Whitfield, who has been in business at Kiefer, Okla., since he moved from here to that place more than two years ago, went to Kansas City about ten days ago, to undergo an operation for appendicitis, with which he had been troubled for some time. The operation was performed on Wednesday of last week, and death occurred at 11 o'clock Friday night.

Deceased was 49 years of age, and nearly all his life was spent in this county. He was born near Pineville, in which vicinity he resided until twelve or more years ago, when he moved to Calico Rock, moving to Oklahoma in the early part of 1921. In 1895 he was married to Miss Paralee Lackey, to which union was born seven children, as follows: Roe, who died in 1912, Porter, who died in 1921, Mrs. Flora Dose, Clora Lackey, Mamie and A. B., Jr, of Kiefer. Deceased is also survived by his wife, his aged mother "Aunt Peggy" Whitfield of Pineville and three brothers --- Jasper of Benton, Ark., Casey of Merriam, Kansas and Young Whitfield of Pineville.

Deceased was known to most every one in this section of the county and the news of his death came as a shock to this community, as he was held in the highest regard and during his residence here was numbered as one of our very best citizens. He stood for everything that meant for the moral betterment of his town and community and was held in the highest trust by a host of friends, who deeply deplore the death of so good a citizen and who extend sympathy to the grief-stricken family in this their late bereavement.

(Note: The Whitfield family plot has a large upright gravestone with the incription Whitfield, and no other inscription. Then the individual graves are marked by small flat gravestones like this one without the surname inscribed on them.)
