Aquilla Wilson Mack
b. 10 Jan 1793 in Rockingham Co., NC
d. 7 May 1876 in Batesville, Independence Co., AR

Aquilla Wilson Mack was the second son of James Mack & Sarah Wilson. He was born January 8th 1793 in Rockingham Co., NC. He was named after his maternal grandfather Aquilla Wilson. Aquilla married Serene Hudson d/o Edward Hutson and Asenath Reese in Maury Co., TN. To this marriage the following were born: Susannah Elizabeth Serene Mack (1824-1846) who married William Benham Ross; Eleanor Mack (1826-1840); Charlotte P. Mack (1829-1880); James B. Mack (1830-1862) Killed in the Battle of Murfreesboro (aka Battle of Stone Ridge); Sarah B. Mack (1832-1848); Asenath Ridley Mack (1836-1912) who married John Wesley Engels; Capt. Young Milton Mack Sr. (1838-1911) and Victoria Ann De La Josphine Mack (1841-1889) who married Whitmill Llewellyn Leggett Sr.
His wife Serene died at the age of 44 on August 9th 1844 in Wayne Co., TN. He later decided to leave Maury Co., TN and came with his sister Lydia Mack who helped take care of the children to Independence County, Arkansas in 1854. He eventually settled down on 280 acres that were located in the Section 12, Township 13, that was located between what is now known as Batesville and Moorefield, Arkansas in Independence County. He was known as the founder of the Mack family in Independence County to the generations to come.
The farm that he settled on is now owned today by his 2nd great-granddaughter Julia Gene (Massey) Nail and the road for Hwy 25 runs right between both sides of the Mack Farm property which is today known as Massey Farm to those who live in Batesville today because of Aquilla’s granddaughter Lou De Anna “Birdie” (Mack) Massey marrying into the Massey family. Today people either refer to it as Massey Farm or those who know of its history call it “The Mack Farm or Old Mack Farm” today. Aquilla and some of his descendants are buried in the Mack Family Cemetery located on the farm property.
