Oscar Melvin Torell, 81, Bentonville, died Monday afternoon at Bates Memorial Hospital. He was born April 2, 1893, in Swedeholme, Neb. He was a graduate of the Luther College, Wahoo, Neb., in 1916 and taught public school in Nebraska before coming to Bentonville 1930. He taught public school at Cave Springs, Vaughn, and Miller schools before retiring in 1947. He had been a farmer since his retirement. He was a member of the New Home Methodist Church and the Sunday School superintendent and taught Sunday School in the New Home church for over 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Esther Torell, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. M. C. Coler Jr., Bentonville; one sister, Miss Hanna Torell, Omaha, Neb.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Callison-McKinney Funeral Chapel in Bentonville with the Rev. Sam Teague officiating. Burial will be in the New Home Cemetery under the direction of Callison-McKinney Funeral Home, Bentonville.

Esther Victoria Torell, 98, of Bentonville died Thursday, July 21, 1994, at her home. Born Dec. 7, 1895, at Malmo, Neb., a daughter of John and Anna Johnson Brodahi, she was a homemaker and a member of New Home Methodist Church and New Home Extension Club. She was the widow of Oscar M. Torell.

Survivors are a daughter, Rachel T. Coler of Bentonville; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is 10 a.m. Saturday at New Home Cemetery with the Rev. Ben Hines officiating. Burial is under the direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
