Hyram Dale Cook, age 92, died February 9, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

He was born July 19, 1915, to Vera Margaret (McClard) and George Arthur Cook in Hot Springs.

Dale was a partner and production manager of Arthur Cook’s Ice Cream and Dairy Company from its opening in 1930 until it closed in June 1971.

Dale enlisted in the Army Air Forces in 1942. From 1944-1946, Dale served as a Flight Instructor and Senior Flight Officer responsible for the proficiency of the instructing personnel of the 3rd Air force Liaison Detachment located at Lamesa Field, Texas. Later, as a multi-engine pilot for the air transport command in the India-Burma-China Theater flying the dangerous route over the Himalayas during World War II, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, two Battle Stars, and other decorations.

Dale was elected to the Hot Springs School Board in 1957 and served for 28 years including time as its President. Dale was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church, a former President of the South Hot Springs Lions’ Club, Past Master of Sumpter Lodge #419, member of Scottish Rites, and Sahara Shrine Masonic Bodies, member of Eastern Star #69, former member of the Garland county Fair Board, member of the Hump Pilots’ Association, past Rainbow Dad (Assembly #7) and recipient of the Grand Cross of Colors at the Arkansas rainbow convention, and life member of the P.T.A.
