Area Man Killed During Rural Shooting Incident

A rural Benton County resident was being held in Benton County Jail Saturday in connection with the shooting death late Friday morning of L. D. Trotter, Rt. 4 Rogers.

Officers said that no charges had been filed and that the investigation was continuing. The man being held, in lieu of $10,000 bond was identified by officials as Cecil M. Williams also of Rt. 4.

The Benton County Sheriff's office reported that deputies answered a call at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday to a rural area north and east of Rogers and found Trotter, 48, dead of an apparant wound from a gunshot.

He was reportedly shot with a pistol.

Officials reported that there had apparently been an altercation between the two men prior to the shooting.

Trotter was born April 25, 1928 in Seminole, Okla. He was a self employed tree surgeon.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Trotter, of the home; four sons, Jerry Trotter, Terry Trotter, Dennis Trotter and Timmy Trotter all of Rogers; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Henry and Mrs. Connie Cypert, both of Rogers; his father, Farris Trotter, Sr. of Siloam Springs.; three brothers, Ernie Trotter, Farris Trotter, Jr., and Hoyt Trotter all of Rogers; three sisters, Mrs. Sis Clyburn and Mrs. Hannah McChristian, both of Rogers, and Mrs. Drucie Greer of Siloam Springs; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Callison Funeral Chapel with Bob Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery.
