Former Hoxie Mayor Jerry Lee Flippo, 74, of Walnut Ridge, died April 16, 2007, at his home.

Born Oct. 21, 1932, in Hoxie, he was the son of Roy and Ida Wooley Flippo. He served as Hoxie Mayor from 1971-74 and from 1987-90.

He was also a member of the State Police Commission from 1989-96, as well as a former chair of the Lawrence County Democrats and a former member of the Lawrence County Election Commission.He was a retired automobile dealer and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hoxie. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jones Flippo, on June 15, 2006, whom he married April 1, 1953.

Survivors include a son, Gary Devoe Flippo, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Margo Broening and husband Harry, Milford, Ohio; a sister, Mary Evelyn Sloan and husband Tom, Walnut Ridge; and six grandchildren, Kera Flippo, Abbey Flippo, Megan Flippo, Alex Broening, Will Broening and Anna Broening.

Funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with Bro. Harold Russell officiating.
Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

WALNUT RIDGE -- Margaret Jane Flippo, 74, of Walnut Ridge passed away Thursday.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Flippo; a son, Gary Flippo of Hoxie; a daughter, Margo Broening of Cincinnati; three sisters, Patsy Hodge of Jonesboro, Wilma Doyle and Maggie Sears, both of Walnut Ridge; a brother, Larry Jones of Chadwick, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Bryan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
