BAKER, B.F. - B.F. Baker was born in Grayson Co., Virginia August 27th, 1843 and died at his home at Brightwater, Benton Co., Ark. January 17, 1912 at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 10 days. He was married to Miss Mahala Mock in McPherson Co., Kan. August 18, 1879. To this union was born 8 children, 7 of whom are living to mourn the death of their father. They are Mrs. Bettie Wardlow, Charles Baker, Mrs. Myrtle Brown, Guy Baker, Mrs. Florida Callis, Grover Baker and Josie Baker. The third child and their mother have passed over. Bro. Baker was converted and joined the M.E. Church, South in 1904. He was loyal to the church, was a faithful steward and gave liberally to all the institutions of the church. He was married the second time to Miss Mattie Buttram on December 26, 1908. The funeral services were held at Buttram's Chapel by his pastor, the writer, and his remains rest there in the grave yard, awaiting the resurrection morning. "Uncle Frank," as we all called him, was a devoted husband, kind and true; as a father he planned diligently and loved devotedly. He was ever ready to assist, relieve or comfort his neighbors. His fatal illness, which began 5 months ago, was beyond human control. His faithful physician, Dr. T.M. Rice, and loving hands did all that was possible but without avail. There is a vacant seat in the church, an empty chair in the home but another saint in heaven; another tie to bind his wife and children to their Heavenly Father. Mourn not for him; think of him as living in the City of God. Y.A. Gilmore, his pastor.
