Alfred F TURNER (VETERAN WWII)

Woodlawn (a.k.a. Oaklawn) (Jonesboro) Cemetery
Craighead County,
Arkansas

"On 27 Jan 1945 Private Turner volunteered to move forward in advance of his squad during an attack on an enemy held hill in order to deliver automatic rifle fire upon an enemy strong point. After destroying the position, he continued to cover advancing riflemen until their objective had been gained and the wounded evacuated.
Later when forward elements of his unit were brought against direct automatic fire, he fired his automatic rifle from an exposed position in order that his unit might destory the enemy emplacement. While performing this outstanding act of courage and loyalty, Private Turner was killed by enemy machine gun fire"
