BURGIN, J.A. - W.A. Anderson was in Rogers Thursday on his way to Fayetteville where he had been called by the death of his friend, J.A. Burgin, who was killed by being caught between the platform and a car. Mr. Burgin had been in the transfer and baggage business at Fayetteville for a number of years and was a popular and well known citizen. He was born and raised in Anderson township in this county and still has a number of relatives there - a brother, E.B. Burgin, and two half-brothers, Brown and Will Cawood. The Benton county friends of the family learned of the untimely death with much sorrow and regret. The Fayetteville Review gives the following account of Burgin's death: "He was busy unloading freight and his drivers were loosening the brakes on the cars, uncoupling them and dropping them down the grade to the platform, when he stepped off the track, with the intention, it is supposed, of climbing upon the platform, when the car caught his body in a space about six inches wide between the side of the car and the platform crushed him, the motion of the car turning his body round and round as it moved." Funeral services were held at Fayetteville and the body was brought to Rogers Saturday morning on No. 4. It was accompanied by a number of Odd Fellows and Masons. Interment was in Barron cemetery. Burgin was about fifty years old and leaves a wife and two children.

Burgin, a drayman of Fayetteville, had been crushed between two freight cars and received injuries from which he died in a short time after the accident occurred. The deceased was reared near Vaughn, this county, and was a brother of E.D. Burgin and Mrs. E.P. Kerr, who reside near Vaughn. He also had numerous other relatives throughout this county. Mr. Burgin was an upright and useful citizen and his tragic death will be greatly deplored by his many relatives and friends in this community. BURGINS, Jesse - The memory of Jesse Burgins, who met such a tragic and sudden death at Fayetteville last week is worthy to keep alive. This community knew him all through the years of his boyhood and young manhood and the record is faultless. He had lived at Fayetteville for the past 20 years. The tribute that Fayetteville paid to his death and what they said of him as a citizen is as great an honor as can be bestowed. He made money by honest toil and divided it with those less fortunate. They said of him that he was always first to hear and respond to the cries of the distressed and above all his acts of charity were unassuming and unselfish. The death of such a man in the prime of life is an inestimable loss to any community. The remains were shipped and interred at the old family burying ground, the Barron cemetery near Vaughn, Saturday. The body was escorted by Odd Fellows from Fayetteville and was laid away under the auspices of that lodge, of which he was an honored member. A large crowd of sympathizing relatives and friends attended the interment to pay their last tribute of respect.
