ALDEN, Philander - Philander, son of Philo and Ida Alden was born Oct. 14, 1876, died May 9th, 1891. Aged 14 years, 7 mo., 25 days. Death has entered the home of Dr. Philo Alden and robbed the fond parents of Philander, their first born. Where was there another whose future promised a more perfect manhood than this noble boy who now sleeps his last sleep. Woven into his character were the traits that make great men and had his life been spared what might he have achieved for himself and the world. Industry, kindness and truth added to his affection and obedience to his parents made him his father's pride and his mother's joy. His disease was congestion of the brain and for three weeks medical skill and tender nursing fought bravely against it, but alas, how weak are human hands! The battle ended - death conquered. Oh! he was fair! that curly haired, brown-eyed boy and his beautiful young life was cut down like a flower before it blooms. Why was it? "What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know hereafter." Maggie F. Norris.
