Enlisted in White County, Ark, Searcy, under Captain Wm Hicks, April 26, 1861, was in
active service 4 years. Assigned to 38 Arkansas Infantry. Was in battles at Prairie Grove, Helena, Mansfield, La and Jenkins Ferry. Served as 1st Lieutenant Commander at close of war, surrendered at Marshal,Texas.
Born in Fayette County, Alabama the son of R H Poe of NC, who lived in Ala and Ark, who
was the son of Thos and Mary Poe of Alabama Maiden name of subject's mother was Holley, daughter of Rasey and Nancy Holley of Alabama

Married Mary Lewis, daughter of W W & Nancy Lewis of Va, March 1, 1868 in White Co, Ark
