John Wesley Messick was born to Ruby Catherine Messick who never married. John had one sister Lydia Anne Messick. John married Celia Wilkerson in 1833 and she died in 1858. They had 13 children together. John remarried in 1867 to Mrs. Lydia Clotilda Frizellen Young. They had three children together.
