Also note that the tombstone has his surname listed as Woods even though most other members of his family including his last wife have their name spelled Wood.

(No obituary has been located for John W. Wood. This obituary ws constructed from information collected by Max Parnell. The tombstone gives the birth date of March 11, 1883. That is obviously incorrect since daughter, Myrtle Arnold was born in 1895. Various census entries point to a January 1869 birth date. Census data also indicates that he may have been preceded in death by other children including Ozella, Eva and Lottie.)
John Wood, 81, of Old Joe died Monday, June 5, 1950. He was born in Arkansas to Wade Wood and Nancy Elizzabeth Burns Wood in January 1869.
He is survived by his wife, Mary 'Cappie' Wilson Wood; three sons, Roy M. Wood of Denver, Colorado, Earl T. Wood of Flippin, and Paul A. Wood of Douglas Wyoming; three daughters, Myrtle May Arnold of Norfork, Goldie Perry of rural Mt. Home and Annie Mae Hamilton of Norfork; one step son Raymond Curry of Mt. Home; two brothers, Henry Wood of Old Joe and Marion Wood od Cabool, Missouri; and one sister, Mathis Green of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Effied Davenport Wood; his second wife, Clara Davenport Wood; and an infant daughter.
Funeral services were conducted at the Galatia Chruch with buriall in the Galatia Cemetery.
