McCURDY, Robert Dickson - Died December 2d, 1908 at his home north of Bentonville, Ark., Robert Dickson McCurdy, aged 72 years and one day. Deceased was born in Washington county, Ark. Dec. 1st, 1836. Professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior when 13 years of age and united with the C.P. Church. In the division of the Bentonville congregation his membership fell in the bounds of the Wood's congregation. January 29, 1893 he was elected and ordained deacon of the church which office he held at the time of his death. January 13th, 1861 he was married to Miss Armilda Jefferson, who with the beloved children, Mary Elizabeth, James Harvey, George Melvin, Mrs. C.L. Ford, Robert Donald, Jasper Marvin and 21 grand children, survive him; one infant child and two grand children having gone before. Bro. McCurdy, though frail in his physical constitution, lived beyond the most hopeful expectation of his dearest friends. His quiet, meek and submissive temperament and his increasingly great and unshaken Christian faith were conducive to longevity. Though painfully afflicted for many years and bedridden and helpless for the last fifteen months of his life, he was never heard to murmur or complain, calmly and passively saying the Lord's will be done. The funeral service, held through Christian courtesy at the home of Bro. Ricketts near the family burying ground, by the writer, assisted by Rev. R.Y. Gray, was well attended by sympathizing friends and neighbors. The remains now lie in that little city of the dead to await their transformation into the likeness of the glorious body of the blessed Lord. May grace, mercy and peace from the Lord Jesus Christ rest upon the disconsolate family and friends. P. Carnahan.
