Gus the son of Charles Toliver Crider and Mary Alice (Fooks) Crider. Mae the daughter of William Henry Willett and Arrie Edna (Norris) Willett.


Gus Crider

Gus Crider, 96, of Imboden, died Jan. 27, 2009, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born Nov. 30, 1912, at Sitka, he was the son of Charles and Mary Fooks Crider. He retired as assistant postmaster at Holbrook, Ariz., after more than 30 years of service. He was a World War II veteran and was of the Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by a son, Louis Crider; and three brothers, Chester Crider, Dexter Crider and Russell Crider.

Survivors include his wife, May Willett Crider, whom he married Dec. 30, 1939, at Smithville; a daughter, Paula Wilson, Almogorda, N.M.; a son, C. Wayne Crider, Oak Harbor, Wash.; a brother, Ted Crider, Louisville, Ky.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Higginbotham Chapel. Burial will be in Smithville Cemetery under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Melissa Mae Crider

Melissa Mae Crider, 90, of Walnut Ridge, died July 6, 2009, in Walnut Ridge.

Born Dec. 14, 1918, in Smithville, she was the daughter of William Henry and Arrie Norris Willett. She was a homemaker and was a member of First Baptist Church in Holbrook, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Charles Crider, whom she married Dec. 30, 1939, in Smithville; and a son, Louis H. Crider.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula Wilson, Alamogordo, N.M.; a son, Wayne Crider, Oak Harbor, Wash.; a brother, Curtis Willett, St. George, Utah; two grandchildren, Melissa Wilson and Charles Crider Jr.; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral was Friday at 11 a.m. at Higginbotham Funeral Home with Johnny White officiating. Burial was in Smithville Cemetery.
