THOS. F. SHORT DIED TUESDAY AFTER A LONG ILLNESS

Thomas Franklin Short, aged 61, well known Benton County farmer, did at 7:30 o’clock Tuesday evening, June 9th, 1936, at his home in the Miller community, five miles northwest of Bentonville, following as illness of three months.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the Miller school and community center, conducted by the Rev. Luther Smith, Baptist minister of Bentonville, and burial was in the Miller cemetery with the Burns Funeral Home of Bentonville in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Short was born February 26, 1875, just across the Arkansas state line near Caverna, Mo. He was a son of David Short, who came to the Ozarks from Indiana, and Nancy Miser Short, who was a native of Tennessee. He was married on June 13th, 1897, to Miss Minnie Galantine, who survives him. She had come to Northwest Arkansas from Tennessee with her aunt, Mrs. Rachael Miller, who homesteaded the Arkansas farm on which her niece and Mr. Short later spent the greater part of their lives, and where he died.

The community and school district derived their name from the Miler family.

Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Short went to Ohio, where they lived three years. They returned to this county and the farm where he died in 1900, where they have since lived.

Mr. Short was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and had been a steward in that church for many years. He had served continuously on the school board for a number of years, and was highly esteemed throughout his community and this entire section.

Beside his wife he is survived by three sons and four daughters, all of whom live on farms in that neighborhood. They are James, Theodore, and Wesley Short, and Mrs. Cleo Williams, Mrs. Chester Williams, Mrs. J.P. Looney, Jr., and Miss Florence Short of the home. He is survived also by one brother, Andrew Short, living in a nearby farm, and by 12 grandchildren, four nephews, and seven nieces.
