SLINKARD, Sarah Elizabeth FORD - {from Walnut Hill} Grandma Slinkard, as she was known here, passed quietly to her reward Monday morning at 3 o'clock. Sarah Elizabeth {Ford} Slinkard was born in Illinois Feb. 22, 1840, died April 18, 1921, living to a ripe old age of 81 years. She was one of the 16 children of Richard and Patsy Ford, who came here at an early date from Tennessee. Only one brother, Uncle Dicky Ford, and a sister in Oklahoma survive out of this large family. She was married to J.H. Slinkard and to this union eleven children were born, five of whom are left to mourn the loss of their mother. She, having seen her husband and six children pass to the great beyond, was left to do God's bidding till he told her to come up higher. She was a faithful Christian for nearly half a century. They were pioneers of McDonald county, Missouri. She has made her home near Walnut Hill for the past year or so, when her health grew so bad she no longer could keep house at her home in Missouri, near White Rock. Her afflictions were great for the last month, a perfect helplessness came upon her and now she is resting by the side of relatives in Walnut cemetery, not as the children had hoped for but as the rains and high water made the roads almost impassable from here to White Rock, they decided best to place her here. A large crowd attended, the services being conducted by Geo. Williams. A large host of friends extend their sympathy to the bereft.
