Son of Edgar Martin Parnell & Hettie Margaret Dickerson Parnell.
Married Elsie Marie Britt on March 24, 1943.
Born Norfork, Baxter County, Arkansas.
Died the Philippines.

PFC Edgar Gearl Parnell died while on active duty with the 172 Infantry in World War II. He died in the Luzon Campaign while directing machine gun fire on a hostile position. He was awarded a Silver Star Medal posthumously. PFC Edgar Parnell was originally buried in the Philippines, but his remains were returned to the United States after the war, and a funeral and re-burial was held at Galatia on February 13, 1949.

For 60 years, his grave was marked with this white marble military marker standing at the head of the grave. In 2009, the family erected a new memorial marker and placed the original marker flat at the foot of the grave.
