Rogers Democrat

John C. Bassinger died Friday at his home, about six miles northeast of Rogers in Walnut Township, at the advanced age of eighty-two years, five months and eleven days. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the Walnut Hill church and were conducted by Elder T.J. Keller. Services at the grave were in charge of the Masonic order from Brightwater for the deceased had been a member of that fraternal society for over forty years. Mr. Bassinger was born in Knoxville, Tenn. in 1825. In 1844 he was married to Isabella Malinda Blankenship and to this union were born ten children, six of whom are still living - one boy and five girls. The only son is Jake Bassinger of this place. The family moved to Illinois in 1850 and two years later came to Benton county, where they have since resided. Until two years ago Mr. Bassinger lived two miles north of Rogers but after the death of his wife he sold the old home place and moved to the old Atkisson place several miles east. The deceased was held in high regard by his many friends and neighbors and the large attendance at the funeral Saturday was eloquent testimony as to his standing in the community where he had lived for more than half a century.
