EDENS, Robert - {from Providence} Robert Edens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Edens, was born in Benton county, Arkansas December 10th, 1881 and died May 9th at the age of forty-five years and five months. He professed a hope and joined the Missionary Baptist church when a boy. He was married to Leona Taylor February 10, 1907. His wife and two children, a daughter, Opal, 19, and a son, Audrey, 13, survive him. He leaves a father, Curtis Edens of Garfield; two brothers, Walter and Virgil Edens of Garfield; three sisters, Mrs. Will Dye, Mrs. Lee Weimer and Mrs. Luther Marler, all of Garfield. Bob, as we know him, was a studious and energetic boy in school or at work and won the respect and admiration of all with whom he came in contact. He took advantage of such facilities as the rural school afforded and started out in life a school teacher which he later dropped and devoted the remainder of his life to the farm. However, he did not lose his interest in school work as he was always ready to help in anything that needed help - the schools and the community in general. Evidence of the high esteem in which he was held by his neighbors and friends was manifested while he was in the hospital when about forty men with twenty-five teams, plows, harrows and hoes, went onto his farm, planted his corn and prepared several acres of land for later crops. Bob had not been well for 3 or 4 weeks but never gave up until the day he was taken to the hospital where he was operated on for appendicitis. Everything that medical skill could do and every kind deed and word was all in vain as to his recovery. He told his family that he felt that his time had come to die and that he was not afraid to go but that if it was the Lord's will he would like to get well and see the children grown and educated. Funeral services were conducted by Elder C.C. Agee of Springfield, Missouri and he was laid to rest in the Walnut Hill cemetery May 10th.
