Died, Sept. 19th, 1895 after a long and lingering illness at his home two and one-half miles east of Bentonville, M.B. Maxwell. The deceased was born in Marion Co., Tenn. Feb. 22nd, 1830 and came with his parents when a young man to Benton Co., Ark. He received, mostly through his own efforts, a good English education. Jan 29th, 1857 he was married to America Jane Woods. Nine children were born to them, three of whom in the last few years, together with his devoted companion had gone before. He professed faith in Christ as a personal Savior about forty-five years ago and united with the C.P. Church. For many years he was a ruling elder in the church, always laboring for it peace, unity and prosperity. His devotion to the church, his zeal and punctuality in the services of the sanctuary, the Sabbath School, the prayer meeting and the ministration of the word and ordinances are worthy of emulation. As a citizen he stood in the front ranks with those who believe in good citizenship and unflinchingly practices his conscientious convictions upon that subject. He stood like a hero to temperance and virtue. For 14 years he was surveyor of Benton county, which of itself is an index to the precision, integrity and uprightness of the man. He was liberal to the church and all benevolent enterprises. He sought to know his duty and knowing it dared to perform it. His last years were years of sorest bereavement and affliction, still he was patiently and meekly submissive to the Divine will and died in the full assurance of a better life. A large audience attended the funeral service at Mt. Eden church and his remains were laid to rest in Mt. Eden cemetery, which he had but recently deeded to the church. P. Carnahan, Pastor.

MAXWELL, America Jane WOODS - Mrs. M.B. Maxwell died last Sunday afternoon at her home three miles east of town and was buried Monday Afternoon, Rev. Peter Carnahan conducting the funeral services. The deceased was an old and highly respected citizen of the community in which she lived, being born and raised there and was truly beloved by all who knew her. Three of Mrs. Maxwell's children and two grandchildren preceded her "to the bourne from whence no traveler returns' within the short space of two years and Mr. Maxwell has been confined to his bed nearly a year with no hopes of recovery. Surely the hand of affiction is laid heavily upon this distressed family and the deepest sympathy goes out to them from all who knew their sad bereavements.
