NETHERTON, James - Died, of consumption, December 12th, 1893, Mr. James Netherton, at his home on the head of Honey Creek, Benton county, Arkansas. It is with solemnity and inferiority that we try to tell of the death of such a good, noble citizen and friend. Words fail to express or portray the goodness of his character. Mr. Netherton was born in east Tennessee in Feb. 1832. From Tennessee he moved to Missouri where he remained until about 1850. About this time he sought life and fortune in the gold fields of California. He remained in California about ten years when he retraced his steps to Missouri. From Missouri he came to Arkansas and has ever remained here since. His beautiful home on Honey Creek has been his delight and pleasure for a number of years. He had no children of his own. He adopted two children (a boy and a girl} by the name of Graves. They are now 12 and 14 years respectively. He leaves them and a loving wife of 48 years as his family. They were very near and dear to him and he expressed that was all he regretted to die for, was leaving her and the children. He leaves four brothers and an aged mother of 82 winters to mourn his absence. Tom, Charley and Boone were his brothers. He talked to all his near relatives present a few minutes ere he died and gave them noble, comforting words and especially to Tom. All those who were connected with the "Grange" will remember him as a tireless worker in that cause and he endeared himself to all with whom he associated. He professed while in California and was a member of the Baptist church. May God send his comforting love to the bereaved friends is the earnest wish of their young friend. Jas. Dumas.
