John W. Hutcheson was born in Izard County, Arkansas, 13 Sep 1834. He died 9 March 1880 in Baxter County, Arkansas. He was the son of Richard C. and Nancy Isabelle Wolf Hutcheson. Family researchers indicate that he may have been married twice, but they know little about the first wife. In the 1870 census of Izard County, Arkansas, he was enumerated with a wife named Mary, born in Mississippi, and a 10-month old daughter, Christina. The researchers know that he was married to Nannie E., and that she was shown as the mother of five children, including Christina, who may have been a step-daughter. No proof has been found in regard to Nannie's parents, but family lore seems to indicate that her maiden name was Greenway or Greenlee.

John W. Hutcheson was the father of five children, Christina Gabrielle, born 1869, married Charles A. Hazelrigg in 1888; Sidney J., born 1872, married Estella Luther in 1900; E. Drucilla, born 1875, married William "Bill" Bonner in 1893; Samuel S., born 1877, never married; and Minnie Lee, born 1879, married Robert Martin in 1901.

Note: The information pertaining to John W. Hutcheson was supplied by a descendent of John W. Hutcheson that is a researcher of the family. Earlene, the researcher, points out that the Surname has been spelled various ways including Hutcherson, as inscribed on John W.'s gravestone, Hutchinson, and Hutcheson (the form used by most family members). She points out that even though his gravestone has it spelled Hutcherson, he was listed as Hutcheson on the Confederate Muster Roll.
