The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Jesse M. Grisham (ASN: 2226305), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, A.E.F., near Fey-en-Haye, France, 12 September 1918. When the advance of his company was halted by an impassable barbed-wire entanglement, Corporal Grisham voluntarily jumped out of a trench in the face of heavy machine-gun fire and cut sufficient paths through the wire to enable the company to continue its advance. In the performance of this self-sacrificing act this gallant soldier was killed.
