OAKES, Clarence - Clarence Oakes, a son of Jack Oakes who lives north of Bentonville, a member of the National Army, was the first Benton county boy to lose his life, dying in the hospital at Camp Beauregard the first of last week. Death was the result of an attack of scarlet fever. Altho he died from natural causes his death is no less a sacrifice for his country's sake than had he died in the trenches, for history tells us that there is quite as much danger in the camps from disease and exposure as in the actual warfare. The body will be brought home for burial.
