Edgar A. Major, 86, peacefully passed away on March 11, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born in Little Rock on May 10, 1937, to the late Anderson (Bake) Major and the late Elizabeth (Elder) Major.

His family moved to Denver Colorado in 1940. He graduated from Wheatridge High School, and got an associate degree at Mesa university in Grand Junction, Colorado. Soon after, he met his wife of 64 years, Marlene. They had 2 daughters, Janene and Jody. Ed took a position at the Denver Post newspaper in 1964 and became a sales executive with the Post.

After 20 years, he was enticed back to Little Rock by Hugh Patterson, owner and Publisher of the Arkansas Gazette in 1984 where he was named Advertising Director. In 1990, Gannette asked him to become a Publisher and named him President /CEO/ Publisher of the Muskogee, OK, Gannette paper. In 1993, he was sent to Monroe LA, to be President/CEO/ Publisher of the Monroe News-Star. He acquired operating responsibilities in five other newspapers as well as holding the publisher position at the News- Star. He retired from Gannette in 2003 and headed to the golf course. In 2006, Ed and Marlene returned to Little Rock. Later that year he spearheaded the idea for the SYNC publication, geared towards young people. In 2008, he accepted his dream job at Edwin Watts Golf store.

Ed is survived by his wife Marlene (DeAngelo) Major, daughters Janene Martin (Richard), Jody Fechter (Bob), and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, on Friday March 22 at 1:30p.m.
