Husband of Frieda Reed King
Rev. Sylvester King was the son of the Late Tom and Annie King of Plumerville,Arkansas. While working in Ozarks, Arkansas for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad, he met and married Freida Reed, who preceded him in death. They had three children. His occupation was Presser and a barber. Rev King relocated to Ft. Smith and became a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church. There is where he was called to the Ministry and served as a Junior Pastor under the leadership of Rev. J. W. Casey. His first assignment was in Paris, Arkansas at the Allena baptist Church. In 1937 he was called to King Solomon Baptist Church where he served for 13 years. He has pastored churches in Conway, Russellvile, Menifee, and Atkins where he remained until 1985. In 1965 he married Dora Davis and moved to Russellville and after several years this marriage was dissolved. From Russelville he moved back to Ft. Smith in 1986. He died at the Oaks Lodge Nursing Home on October 10, 1989.
