Miss Ruth Holland's Body Recovered

Body Found on Kendall farm 12 Days After Tragedy, About 2 Miles From Where She was Drowned.

The body of Miss Ruth Holland who was drowned in Kings River May 7, was found Monday about noon in a hole of water approximately four feet deep, a few yards below the ford at the Lem Kendall farm, and a distance of two miles below the scene of the tragedy.

The body was found by Rule Holland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Holland of this city, his cousin, Clarence Holland and Fred Montgomery both of Alabam. The young men had never given up hope of finding the body and were making the search in a row boat. When they discovered the body it had lodged against a log and one hand was sticking up which attracted their attention, but was several inches under water. They immediately called to Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Hatfield who live on the Kendall farm and who notified neighbors, and in a short time between 200 and 300 people had gathered to render what assistance they could.

Literally hundreds of persons—-for at one time as many as 300 were engaged in the search-—must have passed the spot many times before during the nearly two weeks, but not until Monday had that lone hand been near enough the surface to be discovered.

During the course of the search a diver from Missouri had been employed and had explored an opening beneath a ledge where it was thought the girl's body might have been washed.

The body, clad in a sweater and overalls, was left at the spot until about three o'clock Monday afternoon until Coroner Dr. W. E. Acree could reach the spot from Huntsville, and the body was taken to Huntsville where it was prepared for burial.

The deceased is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Holland, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services were conducted at Alabam, yesterday afternoon and the remains were interred in the Alabam cemetery.
