Mr. Earle Benson, 86, of Hamburg died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Cornerstone Hospital of West Monroe, LA. Mr. Benson was a native of Woodbury, Arkansas and a resident of Hamburg for the past 38 years. He graduated from Hampton High School and the Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN. He retired from Georgia-Pacific Chemical and the City of Hamburg. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was an usher for many years. He loved bird hunting, fly fishing and he was an avid sports fan.
He is preceded in death by two wives, Dean Dunn Benson and Muriel Duke Benson; two sons, James Earle Benson, Jr. and Phillip Lynn Benson; his parents, Noah & Dollie Bethea Benson; a brother, Arvil Benson and a sister, Beatrice Johnson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet King Benson of Hamburg; five step-children, Tammy Love and husband, Shannon Walters, of Mangham, LA, Helen Croswell of Panama City, FL, James (Jimbo) Duke of Whitehall, David Duke of Little Rock, Susie Harrison of Lake Village; two sisters, Myrle Blann of El Dorado and Mervyn Morris of Shreveport, LA; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and his precious dog, Boo Bear Benson.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Pallbearers are Paul Brown, Charles Berryman, Dean Hill, Freddie Martin, James Robinson and Johnnie Pierce. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Carl Locke Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646.
