July 26, 1905 - January 21, 1974
Preston P. Fife, 70, of Rt. 5, died Monday night in a local hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Union County, July 26, 1903, and was the son of Charlie and Julie Sisco Fife. He was a commercial fisherman and life-long resident of Union County. He was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, El Dorado; five sons, Jessie E. Fife, and Kenneth Fife, both of El Dorado; John D. Fife, Bastrop, La.; Preston Fife, Jr., Port Huron, Mich., and Van Buren Fife, Strong; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Hogue, El Dorado, Mrs. Dorothy Sue Balck, Strong; three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Masoner, Ervinville, La., Mrs. Pete Wells, Baton Rouge, La., Mrs. Rachel Groves, El Dorado; 28 grandchildren, and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Cline officiating. Burial was in Green Grove Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers were Louie Hines, O'Neil Hines, Sam Fife, Alvin McBroom, Charles Poole and Donald Crawford. The body will be taken to the residence of Mrs. Mary Ellen Hogue, E. Main Rd., Wednesday afternoon. (The El Dorado Times - January 25, 1974)
